Hello and welcome to Honors United States History with Ms. McLean. I'm excited for everything this year will bring. I know that we will have amazing conversations, debates, questions, and thoughts throughout this course and I'm excited to watch your learning happen. This page is dedicated to helping you stay on track in this class and know what is coming in future lessons. It is also a place with extra resources that will be food for thought on topics that we have discussed throughout this class. Please use this cite to help you succeed and if you ever have any questions, please feel free to email me.
Expectations
My expectations for you in this class are as follows:
You will come prepared for class with a pencil, pen, notebook, folder/binder, and any previous work we have done in class (even if it is not due that day).
You will always have a charged laptop and you use this laptop appropriately for school (such as staying on the right website, using it for research if that is our task that day, and looking at appropriate news sources on our news days.)
You will always be respectful of each others' opinions. We will have many conversations on potentially charged issues in this class. You do not have to agree 100% with what everyone is saying but you do have to be respectful of each others' opinions. This means do not attack them for their beliefs, do not argue to a point where it is too heated, and be willing to open your mind to someone else's thoughts and ideas.
Specific Grading Policies
Although your grading policy is similar to the overall policy, there are a few differences in this class:
For any late homework assignment, the highest grade you can receive is a C.
Any late learning targets will be subject to losing 10 points per class period the assignment is late. *This does not apply if you have spoken with me before the assignment is late and we have set up a specific time for you to pass in the work.
Semester 1 Learning Targets
Understands the variety of reasons that the United States has or has not entered into any war or conflict.
Understands the implications of the social, political, geographic and economic effects war/conflict have had on the United States.
Food For Thought Resource
This section are things that I have found that connect with conversations that we have in class that you may look at to help you or simply to dig deeper into the course. They will range from videos to newspapers to sometimes links to books. Feel free to check these out as you will.
