Before we begin thoroughly analyzing economic reform, it is important to set up some basic information first. That will be our goal for today. We will be researching some of the definitions for terms that we will be using constantly throughout this unit as well as some important dates to keep in mind. Finally, we will add all of this information to our timeline.
Above is the link to the electronic version of our worksheet I handed out in class. This worksheet will have all the basic information we need to start our unit.
Building Our Timeline
Throughout this unit, we will be building an interactive timeline to keep track of all of the economic changes we investigate. Please follow the steps below when you are done with your worksheet to create your timeline.
Sign up with your Auburn google account. *****BE SURE TO REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD AND YOUR EMAIL YOU USED IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY DIDN'T USE YOUR SCHOOL ACCOUNT. THIS WILL BE A HUGE PART OF YOUR GRADE AND YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO MAKE IT UP BECAUSE YOU FORGOT HOW TO LOG IN!*****
Click anywhere on the timeline.
A circle of apps will appear on around your cursor. Please click on the one at the very top that looks like a square with a vertical line at the bottom.
Once you click on this, a bar will appear on the right hand side of the screen. Here you can type in the title of an event, the description, and the date. You can also customize the color and style if you would like.
When you are done, click anywhere again on the screen. This time when the circle appears, click the second box to the right of the event button. This will allow you to create a time period.
Practice adding the Industrial Revolution as a time period.
The title will be "Industrial Revolution in America"
You do not have to add a description yet.
It should last from January 1, 1760 - January 1, 1840.
Now please add separate time periods for:
Civil War
The building of the Transcontinental Railroad
Next, please change the privacy settings to public.
To do this you will click on the lock icon at the top.
Then you will click on the green world icon on the left
**THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT, YOUR TIMELINE WILL NOT SAVE WITHOUT IT.**
Next, click the green "save" button.
A window with a preview will pop up. Click save at the bottom of this screen again.
Next give your timeline the title: "Economic Reform in the United States"
A box will appear with a direct link to share your timeline. Please share your timeline in this google survey
Great job! This is as far as we will go with our timelines for today. We will add more as we go along in the unit.
